So, what I've been doing for the last couple of months is this ………
We're moving back to North Carolina.

Two days after my last post we emailed a few friends and neighbors and announced we were putting our house up for sale.  Our story for the time being was that we were looking for something with more land around it out in the county.  Technically it was the truth, I just neglected to mention WHAT county.

So things went like this:

  • emailed neighbors on September 10th
  • September 18th we had a contract and a back-up offer (anybody remember that was the week the stock market crashed!)
  • closed on the house October 15th
  • Dave's last day at work Halloween – very mixed feelings about leaving his best job yet
  • alert everybody what we're really up to
  • my last gallery walk at AOT on the 1st – an emotional evening
  • started the transition, but first I had to fill a few orders … Dave starts assembling boxes and packing
  • by November 9th thought I was done and ready to start packing the studio – OMG one more order comes in
  • Tuesday all orders shipped and packing the studio begins.  Dave's already got all the books and a good bit of miscellanea packed
  • we'll finish packing tomorrow the 14th and start cleaning
  • Saturday pick up17' U-haul truck with trailer for our trusty 22 year old Toyota p/up (307,000 miles).  I'll be driving the wagon with Zoe kitty.  The rest of the day will be loading
  • Sunday cleaning
  • Monday we hit the road and head east to Cullowhee, NC.  Cullowhee is just south of Sylva which is about 45 minutes west of Asheville.

We'll be in the mountains of western North Carolina, one county over from where we lived until 5 years ago.  We'll be house sitting for a friend for a couple of weeks and plan on buying a house as soon as possible.  Basically we'll be homeless for a while, but we've been there before.

This really does feel like going home.  We have a great many very dear friends that we're very much looking forward to getting to know all over again.  Our families are about to bust.

So, this is all words and no cute pix.  I'm flat out exhausted.  I've been taking pictures along the way and plan to do a web album or something.  I'll be shutting the computer down for a while as of tomorrow.

To those in Port Townsend who may visit this blog, a very sincere thank you for being part of our lives.  We feel like we've packed about 10 years of living into these last 5.  It's been an amazing ride, but now our journey really begins.  We're going back to our heart home, so much more ourselves than we could ever have imagined.

many blessings,
